The Definitive Guide to Anti-Aging Skincare
Let’s be honest, we all want glowing, ageless JLo skin, but unfortunately for most of us genetics don’t swing in our favour. While we’re young our skin is soft, smooth, wrinkle-free and has little sun damage. However, as we age collagen (the protein in our skin that keeps it strong and elastic) production decreases, leading to signs of aging such as wrinkles, dryness, and pigmentation.
Anti-aging skincare is all about maintaining your skin’s healthy texture, by replenishing hydration and nutrients that are essential to a glowing complexion.
Essentials for an Anti-Aging Routine:
Moisturiser
Moisturiser should be the basis for any good anti-aging skin routine. Ideally, your moisturiser should hydrate and provide your skin with ingredients that strengthen its barrier and stimulate collagen production. This is why it’s so important to look at the active ingredients be aware of their benefits, so you can find a moisturiser that fits your skin.
SPF
What is the single most damaging thing to our skin? You guessed it, the sun! It is responsible for most of the visible aging of your skin. Scary I know. Sun damage is the culprit for wrinkles, pigmentation, sun spots, reduced elasticity, degradation of texture, and dryness. That’s why it’s so, so, so important to wear sunscreen and make SPF a daily aspect of your skincare routine! Many products, such as your moisturiser or your foundation already have SPF in them. But pay attention to the amount. The SPF15 in your foundation won’t be enough if you’re spending the day in the sun.
Exfoliator
Exfoliators are the unsung heroes of good, youthful skin! Everyone feels instantly better after a good exfoliation sesh! It is one of the most effectual ways to promote fresh, youthful skin. Exfoliation removes dirt, dead skin cells, and excess oil that can clog pores and cause breakouts and dull skin. A good exfoliator leaves you with softer, smoother skin, and can increase circulation and help get rid of cellulite. So, if you don’t own an exfoliator, it’s time to treat yourself!
Eye Serum/Cream
Slowing down the signs of aging around the eyes can be difficult. Especially when we’re dealing with skin that’s one-tenth the thickness of that covering the rest of our face. Our eyes really need a bit of extra love. Regular use of an eye cream or serum is the best solution. And yes, they are different. Eye serums are ideal if you have oily skin or find eye creams too heavy, they also have a higher concentration of ingredients. Eye creams generally have more ingredients and a thicker consistency than serums. However, the decision is up to you! Shop around, try samples, and ask your beautician which would best suit your skin! Comment if you find a good one, I’m always in the market for a good eye serum!
